Silver for Daniel Watkins at the Oceania Canoe Slalom Championships

Congratulations to Daniel Watkins who won silver in the Men’s C1 and gold in the U23 event at the recent Canoe Slalom Oceania Championships in Auckland. Daniel managed second place despite two gate touches after an otherwise fast and solid run (98.25). Losing four seconds on penalties, he was only 0.39 seconds behind the winner and had the faster raw time. He also competed in the Men’s K1 where he finished fourth and won the U23 category with a clean run.

Also competing was Kate Eckhart, who finished sixth in the Women’s K1 final, third in the U23 K1, seventh in the C1 and third in the U23 C1.

Selections for the 2018 Australian Canoe Slalom National Team will continue at the Australian Open to take place at Penrith Whitewater Stadium 16-18 February 2018.

2018 Canoe Slalom National Championships

  • Daniel Watkins won gold in the U23 C1, however he also finished second overall in the Men’s C1. He also won gold in the U23 K1 and finished first overall in the Men’s K1.
  • Kate Eckhardt won silver in the U23 C1 and finished third overall in the Women’s C1. In addition to this, Kate won gold in the U23 K1 and finished third overall.
  • Daniel Watkins and Kieren Black won bronze in the U23 C2.
  • Kieren Black finished in fourth spot in the U18 C1 and fifth in the U18 K1.
  • David Knox finished fifth in the U18 C1 and 10th in the U18 K1.
